One of the most important things I do for myself is my creative practice. I may do yoga, I may sit in meditation, I may take a quiet walk, snap a photo and edit it. But the time I spend in a simple black journal is some of the most important soulful self-care that I do.
This book, filled with abstract mixed media collage and imagery, is also where I write to find myself, to connect with the things that make me feel fully alive.
One of the classics in journaling is “The New Diary” by Christine Rainer – which I scored a first print edition (1978!) at my favorite used bookstore a few years ago. The foreword is by famous diarist, Anais Nin, who taught journal writing with Rainer at UCLA. Nin writes: “We found… the ultimate instrument for explorations of new forms of consciousness and ecstasy. We practiced it as a way of opening vision into experience…”
The journal reveals the vast landscape of our unconscious mind. The dreams, the desires, the vulnerabilities. It is a potent form of self-expression.
It is a powerful self-growth tool and a way to look at life from different perspectives. You might even re-create yourself or discover your next big thing.
As I posted before, I’m back in the blogging saddle and today’s prompt from Effy is to offer a Giveaway.
So here’s my Giveaway:
If you already journal, this little PDF might inspire you with some new prompts, take your writing in a different direction, inhabit a new land.
If you’re not currently journaling, just take a blank book, a cheap composition will work, and write each prompt out for 2 minutes. Stop and pivot – do another prompt. Or, write for a longer session – 10-20 minutes if you want to. It’s your journal.
Sign up to receive your copy and you’ll also gain access to my Inspiration Library which I will be adding additional resources to soon, including meditations, playlists and art tutorials.
See you on the inside!
